Welcome to The Shoe Goddess Salon - The Web-Column" dedicated to the art and science of buying, wearing, and loving shoes...
Quality vs. Quanity in the Wonderful World of Shoes...
We've all been there - we see a great looking pair of shoes -try them on and let our impulsive - "got to have them now" nature get the best of us...and why not - and at $59.99 the price is sooo attractive and we are talking about buying SHOES here right?! You could have 5 pairs at a lower price for the one good pair you are debating on - so what do you do?
I have spent 20 dollars on a pair of shoes (flip flops and summer sandals mostly at this price) and 500+ on a few select evening shoes in my day - and all I can say is this...when it come to the quality of shoes "you get what you pay for." Naturally - judge by the pre-sale value and go from there with your initial "quality" assessment.
I can tell you with all the "shoe experience" in the world - even if you try to deny it - your feet do know the difference between a good quality made shoe and a piece of junk - and they will not be shy in telling you the difference. Read my lips - OUCH!
Recently, I have scored a few pairs of moderately priced patent leather mid-platforms (meaning not too high and obnoxious looking) that have been such a dream to wear I even wore them to bed (perhaps a topic for a different blog...). I didn't know how amazingly comfortable they would be to stand and work in all day while filming for the show - which can be literally hours on end - but once I realized I could literally "dance all night" in them - I went back for more!
I should note that I have also had my share of horror stories too - comming off a film shoot with swollen, painful feet, blisters, etc., because those "hot looking" shoes I thought would also be at least bearable to wear turned out to be "killers" after just a few hours on my feet in them.
So -how can you tell the difference when they "seem" pretty comfy at first? Sorry ladies, but finding the "right fit" with shoes is a lot like when you are looking for a good man - you know...someone you can rely on, someone you can trust, someone who will support you - it takes time to get to know their real deal - once the "infatuation" period has worn off. It's the same with shoes - they could look great, feel good, and you may have even invested considerable money for them - it just depends on if they are ultimately going to be the right fit for you...or not.
The moral of this story is this: when it comes to investing in shoes for everyday life - invest in quality but don't sacrifice style ~ the "great finds" are out there - and just like men - don't settle for the first good looking specimen that comes along - after all ~ "when your feet are happy ~ you'll be happy ...Until next time, The Shoe Goddess
